The intelligent guide: Greenplan is a technology business belonging to the DHL Group that offers smart logistics in the B2B sector. Together with our partner Leam, we’re developing a Web-based application for Greenplan that uses an algorithm to plan last mile delivery routes in a highly efficient and carbon-saving way.

Challenge

Planning every last mile delivery to be as sustainable and efficient as it can possibly be is a huge challenge for logistics companies. Our customer Greenplan is solving this problem with the help of intelligent algorithms.

Our challenge was to develop a Web application that had to be one thing above all else: clear and easy to use. Large amounts of delivery and route data have to be processed and made available in a user-friendly way. The brief was to make intelligent map views and route details easily accessible to users. And there’s another special challenge: the application’s use cases grow with each new customer. So, new requirements have to be accommodated time and again by the user interface design and front-end implementation.

Approach

User-centric, with a full focus on the usability of the interface. The Web-based application will be used by a wide variety of businesses and must constantly evolve. A system that’s great for small couriers and large shippers alike. And the application has to be component-based and modular, so that it can respond quickly to changes. Only then can the system adapt quickly to different use cases. It’s all about keeping things simple. Because only a simple design is self-explanatory for users.

Result

A Web application with a modular, adaptable user interface design that enables all kinds of customers to plan last mile delivery routes in the most efficient and sustainable way possible. The Greenplan solution is self-explanatory and easy to use, yet offers all the important information needed for comprehensive use cases. An application that not only saves time and carbon emissions, but also reduces costs.

In collaboration with React.js, we translated the requirements of a user-centric architecture into independent components and implemented them in the front-end development. This allows large quantities of logistical data to be easily and individually adapted before being made available and managed. We’re proud to be working with our partner Leam and our customer Greenplan to make the last mile faster, easier, more sustainable and more cost-effective.
